Asking yourself “How to Watch the Pirates of the Caribbean Movies in Order?”

We will get into the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in order, but, for those not yet familiar with the movie series, here is a little about the series.

The Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Series is a hugely popular franchise that began in 2003.

At that time, pirate movies were considered taboo by the Disney studios due to the huge flop history of movies like Cutthroat, and Treasure Planet.

However, Walt Disney took a gamble on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and it was a huge payoff.

With popularity largely based on comedic content, the movie became a smashing success at the box office.

So much so that the movie series grossed nearly $5 billion dollars combined.

How Many Pirates of the Caribbean Movies Are There?

To date, there are five movies in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. We say “to date” because the series is not necessarily finished, although it has been five years since the last movie.

You can read more about that below.

The first film in the series, The Curse of the Black Pearl, was released in 2003.

It was followed by Dead Man’s Chest (2006), At World’s End (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011), and finally, Dead Men Tell No Tales (2013).

After the release of the second film, Johnny Depp announced he would no longer play Captain Jack Sparrow.

He also said that he wanted to take some time off to spend with his family. This led to speculation that the third film might not happen.

The first two films were released in 2003 and 2005, respectively. They both raked in $1 billion at the box office. The third film was released on May 20th, 2007. It made $853 million worldwide.

The fourth film was Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. This movie was released on July 7th, 2008. It made $742 million worldwide.

On June 30th, 2010, Disney announced that the fifth film would be titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. It was released on May 26th, 2017. It made $1 billion worldwide.

Pirates of the Caribbean In Order to Watch

So far, watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in order is the same as the release date or chronological order.

However, the entire order of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies may not have been completed just yet.

Dead Men Tell No Tales is the most recent sequel.  But, in addition to the Margo Robbie Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff, a sixth film is said to be in the works by director Joachim Ronning, potentially starring Karen Gillan.

Will There Be Other Pirates of the Caribbean Movies?

Update - 2021.09.20Here is the latest we know about the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 6

Pirates of the Caribbean 6

Currently under development is Pirates of the Caribbean 6. There are two versions currently on the anvil, both of which are reboots, and neither will continue from Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Although Jerry Bruckheimer and Depp have collaborated on all five Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the sixth in the series may not feature Captain Jack Sparrow.

According to Jerry Bruckheimer, “We’re working on a draft right now, and we’re hoping to have it soon so we can submit it to Disney and see how they like it. We have no idea. We’ve been tinkering with it for a while. We’re not sure what Johnny’s part will be in the one we’re working on right now. So, we’ll have to wait and see.”

He also told London’s The Times in a recent but separate interview, “We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts—one with her, one without. “

The Harley Quinn actress is currently playing an unnamed character in the film, which is being written by Christina Hodson, who previously worked on Birds of Prey.

This suggests that the upcoming film in the franchise, like the DC Comics series, will be more of an ensemble piece.

As for a release date, you can expect the release of the, as of yet, untitled Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel no earlier than 2023.
